Microsoft licensing costs may hinder adoption
In my research Microsoft licensing for the clients alone appears to be $100 per yer. Versus a PC OEM license which is around $100 for the life of the PC. Is Microsoft trying to discourage adoption of virtual desktops?

My greatest concern is it the right stratgey for your business. Consolidation can mean a number of strategies for your company. At Dell we sit down and listen to what issues you and your company are having and then design the right strategy to solve that issue. Not one strategy fits all companies.
I can't comment on what Microsoft's intentions may be, but I can validate your research. I have yet to meet a client virtualization scheme that's cheaper than a regular PC - at least in terms of acquisition cost. But acquisition cost is only part of the picture. Client virtualization is dramatically different than server virtualization, from the core value proposition on up through the technology, the environment and even the users. For th increased costs up front, client virtualization offers several features that you simply cannot gain from traditional clients alone - like improved security, simplified client image management, and session mobility. And, depending on your particular environment, TCO costs over 3-5 years may offset the increased costs up front (beware - lots of different opinions driven by lots of different factors...be sure your model meets your specific needs). At thsi point, our reccommendation is "kick the tires, get to know how Flex Computing may be able to help solve problems, and keep an eye on this space as it develops." Our bet is that we're watching the beginning of a fundamental change in the way clients are managed, distributed, and supported. But there's still a long row to hoe, amigos...a long row indeed.
Size of "high-end" users like Administrators Exchange mailboxes.
Finding a solution that will reduce to a reasonable amount of time the brick level backups on exchange while providing a solid platform for recovery that you can depend on.
The next generation data center has to evolve from the current generation data center. Best practices should be established now to take advantage of the next generation;s technical advances.
The "astronomical" amount of storage space we will need in the near future.
