Marcus J. Bost
Chief Information Officer
Adena Health System
Marcus J. Bost is the Chief Information Officer for Adena Health System, and Board President for the Southern Ohio Health Care Network Chillicothe, Ohio. His 16 year career has been diverse, with positions at all levels and across several industries and has included key IT positions with UPS, Boehringer Ingelheim and Horizon TELCOM.
Some of his major accomplishments have included. Project Director for Ohio TeleHELP, an innovative pilot program that leverages technology to deliver healthcare services to the underserved in both urban and rural communities. The pilot project has already received Legislative approval for Medicare and commercial insurance coverage for procedures and consultations delivered via video. Ohio TeleHELP currently has 12 locations throughout central Ohio providing care to 150 patients daily. Fully implemented, TeleHELP could help the state save $14 million annually in transportation to and from retirement facilities.
Marcus was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the Appalachian Health Information Exchange (AHIE).The AHIE is a regional health information organization made up of 20 healthcare organizations in the region which promotes regional health information exchange. Its mission is to serve as a community of healthcare providers committed to improving quality of care for patients in southeastern Ohio and the Appalachian region through access to integrated health information, increased efficiencies and the sharing of resources among participants
Under Marcus direction Adena Health System will lead efforts in $16 Million Southern Ohio Health Care Network. As part of an effort to unify health records across a 15 county region in Southern Ohio, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced it will be funding a $16 million project to connect health care providers through a secure fiber optic network. This grant will enable the Southern Ohio Health Care Network to work toward numerous initiatives to improve the quality of care throughout the community.
Adena Health System was recently recognized as a Laureate by the Computerworld Honors Program for its case study “Telemedicine Brings Critical-Care Specialists to Newborns in Rural Ohio.” Working with Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Adena launched the telemedicine initiative to virtually link the two hospitals together through a secure connection and high-definition video conferencing system. As a result, specialists in Columbus can now evaluate newborns, share tests and imaging films, and consult with local Adena doctors as if they were standing in the same room. The end result is the opportunity for specialists in Columbus to make more accurate diagnoses, fully participate in treatment, and preserve space at Children’s Hospital for only the most critical cases. For families in Chillicothe and surrounding communities, it means more advanced care closer to home and less need for newborns to be transferred. In just its first year of operation, the project helped cut the number of patients transferred from Adena to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in half. Marcus is very proud of the impact of this project has had on the community.
Adena Health System is a multi-hospital, integrated healthcare delivery system located 45 miles south of Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1895, the health system began as a sole community hospital serving Ross County. Today, Adena serves more than 160,000 people across eight counties with two hospitals, integrated physician practices, urgent care centers, ambulatory care centers, inpatient physical rehabilitation and home care services.
